About

MikeLikesPlants.com is a project developed by Mike Howie as his capstone project for the Horticulture diploma program at Guelph University. It is an evolving project that focuses on providing solutions to make it easier for any resident to contribute to biodiversity and ecological connectivity with gardening – regardless of space or budget.

More information on this project will be posted here, and in various blog posts, as it grows. I hope you’ll grow with me!

About Mike Howie

I’m curious about plants and love to learn by doing. My professional background focuses on communications, with an award-winning career in print journalism followed by working as a communicator in the wildlife charitable space.

I love growing my own heirloom tomatoes and hot peppers (to develop into sauces), herbs (to make blends) and naturalizing spaces. My current gardens are in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I’m still setting up the site and figuring our functionality, so please stay tuned for more.

This website is hosted by GreenGeeks in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint.

Land acknowledgement

I am proud to steward this land in Hamilton, Ontario, which is the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
